Suppression of beating noise of narrow-linewidth erbium-doped fiber ring lasers by use of a semiconductor optical amplifier

    Get PDF
Beating noise in narrow-linewidth erbium-doped fiber ring lasers puts severe limitations on applications of the lasers. We demonstrate the suppression of beating noise in fiber ring lasers by using a semiconductor optical amplifier in the laser cavity, which acts as a high-pass filter. Two different ring structures are presented as examples to demonstrate this beating noise suppression

A Novel Hybrid Classification Model For the Loan Repayment Capability Prediction System

Classification is a powerful tool in Data mining to predict the loan repayment capability of a banking customer. This paper evaluates the performance of various classification algorithms and selects the most appropriate one for predicting the class label of the credit data set as good or bad. Feature selection is a data pre-processing technique refers to the process of identifying the most beneficial features for a given task, while avoiding the noisy, irrelevant and redundant features of the dataset. These irrelevant noisy features results in a poor accuracy for the selected classifier. In order to improve the accuracy of a classifier, the feature selection plays a vital role as a data preprocessing step. Feature selection technique reduces the dimensionality of the feature set of the dataset. This paper has two objectives. First objective is to find out the best classifier algorithm for the credit data set using two different tools such as weka and R. Here the experiment proved that Random Forest performs better for loan repayment credibility prediction system. The second objective is to evaluate the performance of various feature selection methods based on Random Forest classification method. Also a novel hybrid model is developed for the same

Automatic Detection of Vasculature from the Images of Human Retina Using CLAHE and Bitplane Decomposition

Retinal blood vessel detection and extraction is an essential step in understanding several eye related pathologies. It is the key in automatic screening systems for retinal abnormalities. We present a novel yet simple approach to the detection and segmentation of vasculature from the fundus images of the human retina. For the detection and extraction of blood vessels, the green channel of the image is separated. The green channel is preprocessed for a better contrast by using contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) and mathematical morphology. On applying bitplane decomposition, bitplane 2 is found to carry important information on the topology of retinal vasculature. A series of morphological operations on bitplane 2 segment the vasculature accurately. The proposed algorithm is computationally simple and does not require a prior knowledge of other retinal features like optic disc and macula. The algorithm has been evaluated on a subset of MESSIDOR and DRIVE image databases with various visual qualities. Robustness with respect to changes in the parameters of the algorithm has been examined.

Polyherbal traditional formulation Nishaakathakaadhi Kashayam elicit antihyperglycemic effects in streptozotocin induced hyperglycemic rats. Nishaakathakaadhi Kashayam 0.6 ml/kg, p.o. significantly reduced the fasted blood glucose level after 60 days of treatment in diabetic rats. The Kashayam also reduced serum cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, VLDL, alanine transaminase, aspertate transaminase, alkaline phophatase and urea whereas increased HDL, albumin, protein and haemoglobin levels become normal after the treatment. Glycolytic enzyme showed a significant increases in Streptozotocin induced condition while a significant decrease were observed in levels of the gluconeogenic enzymes in Nishaakathakaadhi Kashayam treated diabetic rats. The Kashayam was non-significantly active with standard drug Glibenclamide (0.6 mg/kg, p.o.). The Kashayam has a positive effect on the histopathological changes of the pancreatic beta cells in Streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. The results suggest that Nishaakathakaadhi Kashayam possesses potential antihyperglycemic effect by regulating glucose homeostasis in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. The scientific evidences to antidiabetic use suggest that administration of polyherbal formulation to rats, in a dosage used safely by humans, reduces the production of various diabetes causing biochemical parameters and concomitantly prevents the development of Type 2 (NIDDM) diabetes in established animal models. A combination of different herbals in NKK is used to get the enhanced desired activity

Pleomorphic adenoma of minor salivary gland in the parapharyngeal space

BACKGROUND: Majority of tumours occurring in minor salivary gland are malignant. Pleomorphic adenoma is of rare occurrence in parapharangeal space. CASE PRESENTATION: A rare case of a minor salivary gland pleomorphic adenoma of the parapharyngeal space is reported. Review of literature, clinical features, pathology, radiological findings and treatment of these tumours are discussed. CONCLUSIONS: Parapharangeal salivary tumours presents as a painless progressive swelling with majority of these being malignant. Pleomorphic adenoma in parapharangeal space is of rare occurrence. Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice
